Nigerians, Their Leaders, And The Clergy Are All To Blame For Nigeria's Present Woes

It has always been easy to blame Nigeria's dubious clergy and light fingered politicians for the role they play in ensuring Nigerians remain religious so that they cannot be called into account for the way they mismanage and plunder the country. I have included the clergy, especially those prosperity preachers who hobnob with the political class and, to a large extent, determine the outcome of major elections, because both parties have come to  realize that they have a common goal, and have thus turned an unwitting alliance into a focused and effective one aimed at divvying up Nigeria's oil wealth.

Nigerian Pastor Boasts He Is Taking Tithes And Offerings From His Congregation To Keep Them Out Of Poverty

Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, during the 4-day annual convention of his church which was held about 3 weeks ago, boasted to a crowd of at least a million Nigerians in attendance, and millions more watching worldwide via live stream, that he was still in the business of collecting monies from them to keep them out of poverty.

Prayers Definitely Not Working For Nigeria As Boko Haram Ratchets Up Suicide Bombing Attacks

While Nigerians have been inundated with calls to pray for the challenges facing their country, Boko Haram insurgents are slowly but surely picking up their recently faltering momentum. It started with attacks on Kimba, a pastoral village in Borno state on boxing day, then a fierce gun battle with members of the militia group, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) yesterday in Maiduguri, the capital.

Group Urges Nigerians To Learn From The Birth Of Jesus

The Democrat, a nondescript socio-political group, has called on Nigeria's leaders to emulate the virtues of humility, selflessness, love, compassion, and peace which the birth of Jesus teaches. This absurd admonition follows more than two weeks of calls for prayers for Nigeria by prosperity preachers and political figures.

I Will Be Praying For You

I would not be a millionaire if I got a penny each time someone said the title of this piece to me, but I would have a lot of pennies that is for sure. Last night, I asked a relative who is continually praying for the salvation of my soul what exactly she asks her god to do for me, and the answer I received was the usual vapid christian mumbo jumbo of asking god to forgive me of my sins, save my soul, show me the light, bla bla bla.

Nigeria's Opposition Party Joins In Calls For Prayers

Nigeria's clerics and politicians have, over the last two weeks, been calling for prayers for the nation, and they have been joined by "Africa's largest political party," the People's Democratic Party, PDP, whose national publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh, has called on Nigerians to offer special prayers for Nigeria's unity.

Even More Calls For Prayers And Trust In God As Pastor "Prepares The Saints For Christ"

The season for prayers and trusting God to solve Nigeria's problems is still going strong with another pastor jumping on the 'pray for Nigeria' bandwagon. Pastor William F Kumuyi who oversees the affairs of his Deeper Christian Life Ministry, one of Nigeria's mega christian ministries, as its 'general superintendent' was formally announcing the start of their annual December retreat tagged 'Readiness for Christ's Return'. A statement by him read in part:

Rumination For Nigerians As Ransom Demand Is Made By Abductors Of Two Priests In Nigeria

Three days ago, I wrote about a catholic priest, Fr Mbaka, who visited Nigeria's muslim president Mohammadu Buhari to pray for him and the country. He expressed optimism at the power of prayers in fixing Nigeria's "seasonal" problems. He had not quite settled into his residence after his presidential gallivanting when news broke out about a series of high profile kidnappings.

Former President Of Nigeria Joins In Urging Nigerians To Pray For The Country

Immediate past president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, in a church service to mark the dedication of his first grandchild, called on Nigerians to pray "for the good of the country." The grandchild in question would have been born to his daughter whose wedding caused the shutdown of Abuja, Nigeria's capital city, for the whole day, and souvenirs given to several guests included gold iphones.

Let Us Not Be Deceived By The Frivolous Petitions Prohibition Bill

I decided adopted the 'siddon look' approach ‎to the proposal of a gag bill, or the Frivolous Petitions Prohibition Bill, as the Nigerian Senate would like it to be called but my itchy fingers could no longer resist the urge to put pen to paper ("fingers to keyboard" would be more appropriate).

Atheists Are Not Evil Because We Are 'Godless'

‎One of the questions that christians and muslims, especially, always ask atheists is the origin of their morality. Most modern day religions have a book or some scripture they claim was divinely inspired and therefore serves as a basis for their morality.

The Islamic Movement Of Nigeria, IMN, Is A Terrorist Organization Funded By Iran

Earlier today, I wrote about the clash between the Nigerian soldiers who accompanied the chief of army staff on his official duties in Zaria, Kaduna state, and a crowd of shia muslims from the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, led by Ibrahim El Zakzaky. Mr Zakzaky sustained bullet wounds during the clash, and is currently detained by the Nigerian army "in a very secure facility for his protection." The picture above has been circulating on social media and shows an injured Mr Zakzaky being take into the custody of the army.

Stealing From The Dead, Just Like Our Politicians And Religious Leaders Steal From The Living And The Dying

Three days ago, Nigeria's chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, who is pictured above, was on his way to attend some official  functions in Zaria, Kaduna State, when his convoy was allegedly attacked by a crowd made up of shia muslims led by the controversial Ibrahim Yaqoub El Zakzaky. Mr El Zakzaky is a shia muslim cleric and the leader of the Iran-backed Islamic Movement which introduced shia islam into Nigeria around 1980. Majority of Nigeria's muslims are sunni.

Several Prominent Pastors Hold Special Prayers For Nigeria

Two of my posts last week were about the annual convention of the Living Faith Church Inc's annual convention, shiloh 2015, here and here, which ended yesterday. Another annual convention, the Holy Ghost Congress of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, which also ended yesterday (the publicity poster is shown above) was basically also about praying for Nigeria, as well as declaring miracle on the lives of all those in attendance, and the inevitable offertory.

David Oyedepo, whom I wrote about here just two days ago for recommending prayers as the solution to the challenges facing Nigeria has now said that turning to God will restore Nigeria's lost glory. He was speaking at 'Shiloh 2015', the annual convention of his Living Faith Church which is streamed live online.

Nigerian Killer Pastor Currently On Deathrow To Know Fate Next February

Chukwuemeka Kingsley Ezeugo, who prefers to be called Reverend Dr King, on July 22 2006, doused seven young women with petrol and set them ablaze after accusing them of sexual immorality. One of the victims, Ann Uzor, died as a result of third degree burns she sustained, on August 2 2006. Mr Ezeugo was arrested and charged with six counts of attempted murder for which he got a 20-year prison sentence, and for the murder of Miss Uzor, he is to face the hangman's noose.

Nigerian Preacher Claims He Foresaw Politician's Demise

Apostle John Suleiman (above) who heads the Omega Fire Ministries based in Auchi, Edo state, Nigeria, has claimed that he foresaw the death of Audu Abubakar. Mr Abubakar died on November 22 shortly after the results of the Kogi state gubernatorial elections held the previous day, in which he was a candidate, was declared inconclusive by the electoral commission. He was governor from 1999 to 2003 and was the focus of an investigation for stealing up to 11 billion Naira ($54.63 million) while in office.

Nigerian Man Preaching In A London Bus Faces The Wrath Of Fellow Passengers

In Nigeria it is common for anyone to begin preaching in a commercial transport vehicle, especially in buses where such a person knows it will be inevitable that people will at least hear what is being said. Many of these itinerant or emergency 'preachers' end up asking for "something to support this young ministry," which, of course, is money. Many people give money in order not to be seen as being anti-christian, and unscrupulous persons have expectedly taken advantage of this to con users of public transportation out of lots of money.

Trial Of Prophet TB Joshua And His Engineers Adjourned As They Refuse To Appear In Court

Just as I expected, prophet TB Joshua and his engineers were a no-show in court today to stand trial for their role in a collapsed building that killed over a hundred persons. I expressed my very real fears yesterday when I highlighted the impunity Mr Joshua was likely to put on display in this trial, and also the complicity of Nigeria's corrupt judiciary.

Nigerian Pastor Whose Collapsed Building Killed 108 Persons To Be Arraigned In Court Tomorrow

It may be the beginning of justice for those who lost their lives when prophet TB Joshua's illegal multi-storey building collapsed in September of last year. Three weeks ago, he had prayed the courts in Lagos, Nigeria to throw out the coroner's court findings and therefore not consider him liable for the deaths of innocent, albeit gullible, miracle seekers.

Boko Haram Describes Victims Of Its Latest Suicide Attacks As Filth

Boko Haram has been unrelenting in its suicide campaigns, carrying out no less than five attacks, and killing at least 50 persons in the last two weeks in northern Nigeria. Yesterday, a suicide bomber detonated explosives killing 22 persons of the shi'a extraction during a procession in a village near Nigeria's northern city of Kano. Claiming  responsibility for the attack, the muslim terror group described the victims as "ploytheists" and promised to "clean the earth of their filth."

The Rapture Through 'Adeboye's' Eyes

My last post was about Enoch Adeboye, the influential general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, in Nigeria, and earlier today, some of my contacts sent me the message below, about the rapture, purportedly from pastor Adeboye. It was a broadcast message they all received from one or more of their own contacts, and I have reproduced it exactly as I received it.

Nigeria's Pastor Enoch Adeboye Confident The Late Mrs Awolowo Is In Heaven

Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the  Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, is showing more of his foolishness by declaring that Mrs HID Awolowo (the wife of the late Obafemi Awolowo, one of Nigeria's leading politicians from independence up until the early 1980's) who died recently is now in heaven.

Nigeria's New Ministers Do Not Inspire Hope For Change

Yesterday, president Buhari's ministerial nominees were finally sworn into their various posts and work for them should begin in ernest. You can find their names and portfolios here. In Nigeria, one is sworn into office using either the bible or the koran. There is no other alternative, or one would be seen as godless. Do not even think about coming out as atheist, whether you are a government official or private‎ citizen; you will be seen as the devil himself, and your life as you know it would be over. But I digress.

Man, 50, Blames Evil Spirits After Raping A 2 Year Old Girl

A 50 year old man from Mbak Ekpe in Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria, Okon Michael, has blamed evil spirits for his rape of a two year old girl. In his own words, "I used my anointing oil to lure her into my room and all of a sudden, I was carried away and before I knew what was happening, I saw myself making love to her." He has reportedly blamed the devil for his misdeed.

The Nigerian Factor

Nigeria won the under 17 FIFA world cup tournament last night. I saw the match on tv, the only one of the tournament I did, and was not really surprised we won. Nigeria is the competition's most successful team with this fifth title, and was the defending champion having won the last edition 2 years ago.

Wife Of Nigeria's President Visits Renowned Catholic Priest

Aisha Buhari (pictured above), the wife of Nigeria's president Muhammadu Buhari, who was in Enugu for some charity event, paid a brief visit to Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, a catholic priest who runs the Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria (AMEN). Father Mbaka, as he is popularly known, controversially did an about-face on the Jonathans (Nigeria's immediate past president and his wife) in the middle of the campaigns for the March 28th 2015 presidential election which brought Buhari into power. He had previously prayed publicly for the Jonathans, but just months later gave them a public dressing-down.

Nigerian Man Claims Indian Man Stole His Privates

A bizzarre incident occurred a few days ago in Navy town, Lagos, when a commercial motorcycle (popularly called okada) operator accused his passenger, an Indian man, of making away with his privates. Such incidents are not unheard of, and in the very superstitious minds of majority of Nigerians, it is very real.

Kidnappers Demand 30 Million Naira Ransom For RCCG Pastor

Just two days ago, I wrote about pastor Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, saying that God had a hand in Nigeria's affairs, little did I know that a pastor, Mark Christmas, of one of RCCG's branches in oil rich Bayelsa state, had been kidnapped.

Nigerian Pastor Claims Credit For Predicting Russian Passenger Jet Crash

Nigeria's Prophet TB Joshua, of the 'Morning Water' fame has claimed credit for predicting, over a year ago, the crash or shooting down (whichever version you choose to believe) of a Russian passenger jet in Egypt. Pastor Adeboye Says God Has A Hand In Nigeria's Affairs

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), whose 2015 predictions for Nigeria and the world was a load of bullshit has told his congregation that God has a hand in Nigeria's affairs. He was speaking at a special event, titled 'Free Indeed', held at one of his church's branches in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Here is an excerpt from his homily:
“It is possible for a country to be free, but its citizens are not. Nigeria has been free for 55 years, but many of us are not free. If not for God’s intervention, Nigeria would have been in another civil war. Without His intervention in this land, we would not be experiencing peace. We should keep praying for His peace to reign."

South Africa Set To Return $9m Seized From Occupants Of Pastor's Private Jet

In September of last year,  two Nigerian men and an Isreali man were arrested by South African authorities after $9.34m in crisp 100 dollar bills were found in the private jet they arrived in from Nigeria. Ayo Oritsejafor, a pastor who was very close to then president Goodluck Jonathan (both pictured above) admitted he had leased the jet to the Nigerian government and was not aware it was to be used to transport cash. The Nigerian government claimed the money was for the procurement of weapons, ostensibly for the fight against the Boko Haram terror group.

Fifth Bangladeshi Atheist Hacked To Death This Year

I saw a tweet announcing 43-year-old Faisal Arefin Dipon's death about 4 hours ago but was too filled with a combination of dread and deep sadness to even begin to look for details. He was found dead by his father, Abul Kashem Fazlul Haq, a writer.

Journalists Threatened In Nigeria For Reporting The Rape Of Secondary School Boys

Two days ago, this report about an invasion of a secondary school in Kano state, Nigeria, by "mysterious persons" who proceeded to rape some of the students must have ruffled more than a few feathers, because just yesterday, a journalist was asked to desist from investigating the incident by three men who claimed to be from the police.

Another Video Shows Suspected Boko Haram Members Being Interrogated And Threatened With Death

The video above surfaced two days ago and seems to depict some authority figure (from the Nigerian Army perhaps?) in the midst of captured suspected Boko Haram terrorists. This was after another video showing the civilian JTF in Borno state subjecting a suspected Boko Haram terrorist to brutal torture by hanging him from a tree with his hands and feet tied together behind his back.

Boko Haram Releases Second Propaganda Video In A Month

Nigeria's very own home grown islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram, released an undated video showing its battle with Nigerian troops, the second one a month. A Nigerian man from Abia state, Marshall Nwankwo, has been arrested in connection with the murder of a hunchbacked man. Pakistani Christian Headmaster Brutally Beaten By Muslim Colleagues For Being Their Superior

Saddique Azam, a Pakistani catholic christian who was promoted to the position of headmaster, was brutally beaten and tortured by aggrieved muslim colleagues who have refused to work under his authority. He was appointed three months ago, was never issued a letter of appointment, and the police have ignored his plight; while the local government have been putting pressure on him to resign. The beleaguered teacher, in the first two months after his appointment, was the subject of constant verbal abuse, derision and harassment by his muslim colleagues in a bid to get him to resign, citing his faith as the reason he cannot be headmaster.

Zimbabwe Pastor Sells Exam Success Pens

A Zimbabwean pastor, who goes by the appellation Prophet Sham Hungwe, of House of Grace International Church has promised his congregation examination success if they  have faith and write with his "anointed" pens. Of course the pens are not free; they cost about 15 cents each, but his congregants pay as much as $20, because the 'prophet' has led them to believe that the more they pay, which is also a measure of their faith in the magic pens, the greater their success in the said examinations.

Borno 'Elder' Labels Boko Haram Terrorists Cowards For Bombing Innocent Citizens

Alhaji Bulami Gubio (Nigerians love titles, 'Alhaji' in this case denotes he has been to Mecca for the hajj), the secretary of the Borno Elders Forum, BEF, in the wake of the twin suicide bomb attacks on 2 mosques in Borno and Adamawa states today has labelled the Boko Haram terrorists as cowards. He said they would rather take to bombing innocent citizens praying in mosques than take on the Nigerian military in the bushes.

A Second Mosque Attacked By Suicide Bombers In Northern Nigeria Hours After Today's Early Morning Suicide Bombing

I predicted that more mosques would be attacked in northern Nigeria by the Boko Haram terrorists barely 8 hours ago, and while it gives me no pleasure whatsoever, at least 27 persons have been killed and another 96 injured in a second suicide bombing attack in a single day, this time in a mosque in Yola, Adamawa state.

Muslim Cleric Says It Is Dangerous To Marry Just One Wife

The  absurd buffoonery exhibited by muslim clerics, going by what I have seen and heard, is overwhelmingly incredible. I had previously written here about a muslim cleric describing the breasts and sexual desirability of the virgins in paradise, and also about another who said that men who masturbated would meet their pregnant hands in the afterlife (and what surprise awaits women who masturbated?). This time, a Nigerian muslim scholar and preacher, Shiekh Muyideen Bello, stated that it is dangerous for a muslim man to marry just one wife. Mr Bello advocated starting with two wives, a directive from Allah!

Borno State Muslims Do Not Learn As Six Die In Another Mosque Bombing

Another suicide bomber has detonated a bomb in a mosque located behind a magistrate court in Maiduguri, Borno state, Nigeria. The incident occurred this morning, killing six, with another 17 injured. Civilian JTF Tortures Suspected Boko Haram Members

The Joint Task Force, JTF, was formed by the Nigerian government and comprises various armed forces (army, navy, airforce, state secret police) whose mandate is to tackle the Boko Haram terrorists. Due to the initial failure of the JTF to curtail the Boko Haram menace, the youths of Maiduguri in Borno state, which is the hotbed of Boko Haram's activities, formed the Borno Youth Association of Peace and Justice, also known as the Civilian JTF, to basically do what the federal forces could not do. Their arsenal includes locally made guns, machetes, and bows and arrows.

Gunman Kills Five Shia Muslims In Saudi Arabia

Just yesterday, I wrote about muslims killing fellow muslims and used the oppression of the minority shias by the majority sunni muslims in Saudi Arabia as an example. Well, in my usual 'prophetic' manner (please pay no heed to this), a sunni muslim man shot and killed five shia muslims and injured nine others before he was gunned down by Saudi police. A group claiming links to Islamic State, IS, has claimed responsibility.

Church Whose Collapsed Building Killed Over 100 Persons Challenges Indictment And Possible Prosecution

The Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, overseen by pastor TB Joshua (pictured), will be in court from Monday next week to challenge its indictment by the Lagos state coroner's office. It will be recalled that a guest house under construction collapsed and killed over 100 persons most of whom were foreigners from other African countries who are seeking miracles from Mr Joshua. The church's official position was that a mysterious aircraft had caused the collapse, and I had written about the delay in prosecuting TB Joshua for mass murder nearly a year after the incident.

Man Whose Wife And Daughter Were Killed During Bank Robbery Says They Will Make Heaven

A man whose wife and 14-month-old daughter were killed by stray bullets during a bank robbery operation in Lagos, Nigeria, has said they will "make heaven." Fear Of Extradition And Prosecution Kills Nigerian Politician

Diepreye Solomon Peter (DSP) Alamieyeseigha, the first executive governor of Nigeria's oil rich Bayelsa state died earlier today aged 62. He was said to have taken ill two days ago which caused him to slip into a coma. This was the same man who disguised himself as a woman and slipped out of the United Kingdom to escape money laundering charges in 2005. He was impeached and removed from office soon after, and his then deputy, and immediate past president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, became governor. He later served a short jail time for the same corruption and money laundering charges in Nigeria, but was controversially granted a state pardon by Jonathan in 2013.

Motivating Muslim Men

I read this (in which a muslim cleric says that those who masturbate will have a pregnant hand in the afterlife) a few months ago and was convinced that the moronic men who passed for islamic clerics couldn't get any stupider. But this has had my sides in excruciating pain from long bouts of laughter. Is this really the reason young men blow themselves up with suicide vests and fly planes into buildings? Islamic clerics keep reminding young muslim men of the 72 virgins that await them in paradise. But this particular Saudi cleric has added that not only are the breasts of the virgins like pomegranates, their virginities are renewed each and everyday and they become even more lustful and feminine!

The Deeper Christian Life Ministry, led by pastor William F Kumuyi (above), concluded a month-long, Lagos city-wide crusade on Sunday. The crusade saw the respected preacher tour the Lagos, Nigeria's former capital, on a mission to win souls for the Lord's vineyard, and very uncharacteristically failed to collect any money in the form of offerings or contributions from the hundreds of thousands in attendance at the various venues. Apart from the nearly 40000 persons who were said to have been "converted", there were reports of diverse miracles. It is this miracle part that really interests me.

My Independence Day Wish For Nigeria

Today marks 55 years of independence for Nigeria from British rule. Nigeria has since 1999 had its longest uninterrupted democratic period in its chequered history.

Femi Aribisala, who is described on premiumtimesng.com as "a scholar and international affairs expert...currently an iconoclastic church pastor in Lagos...also a syndicated essayist for a handful of publications in Nigeria," has singled out Nigeria's "celebrity pastors and megachurches" for some verbal drubbing. He was basically telling Nigerians that his megachurch-running brethren are false teachers, while he is the real deal; in other words, the difference between six and half a dozen, or a classic case of the kettle calling the pot black.
