Sympathizers Offer Prayers For The Release Of Kidnapped Former Presidential Aspirant

Chief Olu Falae, 77, a former presidential aspirant was kidnapped yesterday from his home in Akure, the Ondo state capital in south west Nigeria on what was ironically his birthday. He was allegedly kidnapped by Fulani herdsmen (cattle rearers) allegedly at the behest of another group who have made a ransom demand of 100 million Naira (nearly $500000).
The news of his kidnap spread quickly and all manner of persons thronged to his residence to offer their support, and of course prayers to the almighty for his quick release. It would be recalled that a popular journalist was kidnapped about 3 weeks ago and even the police joined in prayers to God for her release. She was eventually freed after her family had obviously paid her abductors, although the Nigerian press was deafeningly silent about this. Prayers will not free Chief Falae. The Nigerian police should do their jobs and stop this national embarrassment of joining the public in offering prayers for the release of those who are abducted.
